WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16), Chair of the Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Sub-Committee, and Reps. David Rouzer (R-N.C.), Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.), Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.), Marcia L. Fudge (D-Ohio), and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) introduced a resolution commending the Federal Food for Peace program, recognizing the ongoing humanitarian need in conflict areas around the globe, and calling for the continued prioritization of funding for Food for Peace programs.

Following the introduction, Reps. Costa and Bishop issued the following statements:

“Hunger is a corrosive force in so many developing parts of our world. It both causes and worsens conflict, and it disproportionately affects children,” said Costa, who Chairs the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock and Foreign Agriculture. “For more than 60 years, Food for Peace has worked in conflict areas to ensure affected communities can recover and rebuild their self-reliance. I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing this resolution today and calling attention both to the wonderful work that Food for Peace has done, and the challenges we still must overcome.”

“We know that where hunger remains, instability spreads. Food security provides a solid foundation for peaceful communities and supports vital agricultural development,” added Bishop, who serves as Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies. “I am honored to support the Food for Peace program and join this resolution because it is one of our most effective international diplomacy programs. It is absolutely necessary to celebrate this program and to ensure its continued funding and success.”

    Congressman Costa further stated that “I have introduced H.
