I am writing you today to voice my strong support for the Food for Peace Title II humanitarian assistance program created by Public Law 480 and disappointment over the proposed changes to the program in the Administration’s FY 2014 budget proposal.
Since 1954, the Food for Peace program has enabled the United States to play a leading role in responding to international food assistance needs and ensuring global food security, reaching more than 3 billion people in 150 countries. Today, the Food for Peace program, which is administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has become the largest vehicle for U.S, international food aid shipments and stands as an important symbol of our nation’s goodwill around the world.
